GreenSock (aka “GSAP”) is a popular JavaScript animation framework. We have a few articles that leverage GSAP, but we’re looking for a simple resource that would help those uninitiated to using this toolset.

To claim this bounty, the article must be published on webdeveloper.com by an approved author—to request author access, submit this form (must be logged in to view).

Bonus SATS (via author tips) available for articles that get featured on the home page!

GreenSock is a powerful animation platform, that lets you animate almost any DOM element properties, CSS values, canvas objects and more.

It consists of 4 core tools.
This is an overview of all 4
tools and what they are useful for.
The core of GSAP, animate any property with number value eg. width, height. With CSSPlugin you can animate any CSS property eg. fontSize, backgroundColor.
TweenLite is great for simple animations of one or a few elements.
The container for multiple tweens or timelines. Pause, reverse, restart, speed up, slow down, seek time, add labels and more.
TimelineLite is great for sequencing multiple tweens.
TimelineLite functionality plus repeat, yoyo, tweening to
previous or next label, custom callback functions and more.
TimelineMax is great for advanced sequencing of multiple tweens and timelines.
Includes all the above plus repeat, yoyo, delay and stagger individual tweens or timelines and more. Also includes many popular plugins.
TweenMax is the most powerful animation tool.

@timmy2stacksJan 19.2023 — GreenSock is a powerful JavaScript animation library that allows you to create complex animations with ease. In this tutorial, we will go over the basic steps of getting started with GreenSock and creating your first animation.

Include the GreenSock library in your project. You can either download the library from the GreenSock website or include it via a package manager like npm or yarn.

Create a new animation by using the TweenMax.to() method. This method takes two arguments: the element you want to animate and the animation properties. For example, to animate the position of an element with the id "my-element", you would use the following code:

TweenMax.to("#my-element", 1, {x: 100, y: 100});

Start the animation by calling the play() method. You can also pause, resume, or stop the animation using the appropriate methods.

To create more complex animations, you can use the TweenMax.fromTo() method, which allows you to animate between two sets of properties. You can also chain multiple animations together using the staggerTo() and staggerFrom() methods.

You can also add callbacks to your animations to be executed at specific points in the animation, or loop an animation.

Here's an example of a more complex animation that moves an element to the right, then up, and then back to its original position:

Code :
TweenMax.fromTo("#my-element", 2, {x: 0}, {x: 100, y: -100, onComplete: onCompleteHandler});

You can also use the timeline method to create a sequence of animations.

var tl = new TimelineMax();
tl.to("#my-element", 1, {x: 100});
tl.to("#my-element", 1, {y: 100});
tl.to("#my-element", 1, {x: 0, y: 0});

Finally, don't forget to include the GreenSock CSS file in your project to ensure that the animations run smoothly.
That's it! With these basic steps, you should be able to create simple animations with GreenSock. For more advanced usage and options, refer to the GreenSock documentation.
