My client wants to setup a live web cam showing the view from their Inn. There would be no audio or anything needed, just a live web cam. Does anyone know what this entails? I see you can get web cams anywhere from $20 and up.
@PeOfEoMar 19.2005 — #You would have to run a stream server. This means a pc with a (very) good upload rate that will be able to upload that media stream to the end user... even if your site is hosted on another server you will probably just remotely link the stream.
@PeOfEoMar 20.2005 — #yes. You might need to contact the local cable or dsl provider and see what kind of an upload you can get. You are probably going to need to get business class cable or dsl, or maybe some sort of fractional t1. A home cable or dsl connection might be enough for a few simultaneous users, but anything more then that and your stream is going to be choppy and laggy and buffer like a feind. Also the cable companies generally cap upload rates on home lines just because they do not want you running a server on them and trying to run a server on them (that they will notice because the upload is often maxed out) will a lot of the time violate the cable providers TOS.

WHats nice about this software is the ease of use!
You set it up and put in your FTP info it uploads a new shot every X minutes or seconds and you simply link to one file.
No stream server or other BS... Just a Webcam this Software which it's $40 bucks so tell your client to cough it up it's only $40 bucks. Well worth it and if you or your client has an issue with spending the money it's time to move on to another client or career. (Just my 2 cents)
@jmarshallauthorMar 21.2005 — #Thanks SO much for your input! I checked out WebCam32 and that looks like the way we should go - they just want a live shot of the harbor for potential visitors to see the view and the weather, so I think this will work out great.
