Social network brainstorm

So I’m looking to develop a social network, something that could be competitive with Twitter & Facebook functionality-wise. My project is called “Japloom.” Rather than being another Facebook or Twitter I want to be the first Japloom.

For you all, who are a part of this forum, you know the in’s and out’s of web development so I figured I would turn to this resource for ideas. I had a general idea, I pursued it, and because of my own personal lack of approval, I deleted it hoping to be completely original or innovative.

Ideas?

(I’m also looking for someone who may desire to join in on this project and help out with designing. I can do it but I’m better at and prefer doing the programming end of things.)

@jedaisoulOct 15.2013 — Twitter and Facebook are so dominant that the likelihood of creating a successful alternative, however innovative, is not impossible, but it is vanishingly small. I would suspect that you would need the commercial muscle of a corporation like Google behind you to have any chance of success.

@pp2241Dec 02.2013 — well i was reading about two dutch students that tweeted richard brandson asking him to take them to the inhaguration of Obama and he took them in his plane. this gave me the idea of a sort of linkedin like network making everyone give up their job. like in the case of the students they would post a 'tweet/status' saying like: hey mr brandson please take us to washington. then this shows up to everyone that gave up virgin as their employer and they are able to 'like' it and make it end up higer or more visible on the newsfeed of other employees creating a snowball effect where eventualy this post will end up on top of richard brandsons newsfeed being able to reply. this could be possible in facebook, however it only works with friends and nobody realy shares stuff even though the 'if i get a thousand likes' posts do get around from time to time

@WebDesignPhxDec 03.2013 — I think it is great to try to create a new social media website! Go for it! If everyone just thought that it was already taken then there would be no competition. Although it will be tough to compete its always worth a try!

Maybe they will buy you out ?
