@The_CheatFeb 27.2004 — #First of all, figure out your coding methods... because this is very important when picking an editor. If you like to point and click to edit stuff like html, then you are probably going to want something like html kit. But if you like to code all of your html and php scripts by hand, then you are going to want a good editor with good syntax highlighting and probably a less feature-bloated interface. I prefer to code all of my html and php by hand, so i like to use editors with good syntax highlighting and isn't bloated with a ton of extra crap that i will never use and just gets in the way...
I have used just about every free editor there is, here are a few:
maguma studio
phpedit
vim
html-kit
php eclipse
scite
context
crimson editor
php coder
pspad
syntext editor
and many more editors.
I have found that i liked pspad syntext and context the best.
I found phpedit and maguma to be very buggy/bloated.
html-kit was too bloated.
Scite was too complicated to configure (you had to configure everything by editing ini files).
Pspad was great until i found some nasty bug that when i undo/redo'd alot it would lose code or duplicate code, Other than that pspad was great.
Context is very very good except it has very slow development by the author.
Crimson was pretty good, but could be better..
And out of all of these, i liked syn text the best, it has good syntax highlighing, is fast, and stable.
It's all a matter of your coding style and preferences......
@SamFeb 27.2004 — #though its a bit bulky, I'd recommend jEdit. Alternatly, UltraEdit & Code Genie are nice

if you are up to spend a 100 bucks,I'd say Homecite is one of the best text editors for web technologies :-)
you mean homesite ?
@Paul_JrFeb 28.2004 — #I personally use Homesite, it's completely awesome, except I don't really like the syntax highlighting.
I've used Homesite, PHP Edit, Code Genie, Crimson Editor, and 1st Page 2000, I believe. Crimson Editor is pretty nice, but it's lacking in a few places.
