Loading reCaptcha with false information

Note: I will NOT do the following, nor do I recommend it to anyone else.

In reCaptcha, it “succeeds” if you enter the word that Google knows correctly. It doesn’t matter if you enter the other word incorrectly.
A few minutes ago, I came across a reCaptcha where one of the words is completely unreadable, so I entered a few random letters and “passed” the captcha.
What if I entered my domain? Would it appear in Google Books? I doubt it’ll work because Google double checks by giving the same word to different people. It would be cool if it did work ?

@tirnaAug 18.2010 — I used to use reCaptcha before I built my own captcha test and it works fine.

Without seeing the code, it's virtually impossible to know what happened.

@CharlesAug 18.2010 — CAPTCHAs have long been known to cause more harm than good anyway. http://www.w3.org/TR/turingtest/ .

@tirnaAug 18.2010 — Imo CAPTCHAs do far more good than harm, well for me at least, in preventing hackers breaking into websites/databases etc.

However, the aim should be to make the captcha tests available to as many users as possible.

@CharlesAug 18.2010 — The problem is, CAPTCHA breaking software has progressed to the point where it is better and quicker at solving the CAPTCHAs than humans.

@narutodude000authorAug 18.2010 — Captchas are quite effective for me. I got 1000+ spam posts on my blog per day before I started using Captchas.

Imo the above generalisation is simply not true for all CAPTCHAs.

It depends on how robust the CAPTCHA test is against being broken. Basically, there are strong CAPTCHAs and there are weak CAPTCHAs.

Some time ago after doing some research on what makes a strong CAPTCHA, and imo this article is a good starting point for anyone interested, I built my own CAPTCHA system.

But since having built my own CAPTCHA system and hence having a better understanding of what makes a robust captcha I am amazed at how many captcha tests are out there on the www that would not be too difficult to break if someone really wanted to.

But there are a lot of strong CAPTCHAs out there as well.?
