Which software do I use???

I’m new to web design. I know a little bit of HTML, but I want to build a fancy flash web site for my husband’s company. I want software to use to design the website but have no idea which one to use. I’d like something more than just templates but easier than writing it from scratch. I’d like a drag and drop/WYSIWYG something. I don’t mind paying the $700 for Adobe if I knew I could use it. I’m just not familiar with what is out there. Any suggestions? ?

Answer is sort of two part. First, probably best to get a copy of the real Flash program and start to learn the basics so that even if you later get some template type drag and drop, you'll understand how Flash works and how best to customize your own. This is where you will do the Flash part.

Second, unless you expect to just publish directly from Flash and never touch the HTML, get a copy of Dreamweaver to do the Web page edits with. Adobe charges a pretty penny but it's the real deal and not a wanna be knock off, CS3 or CS4 would be your best bet.

@NogDogNov 08.2008 — Suggestion: be careful about building a "fancy Flash site". If you go too Flash-crazy you risk losing visitors who either have Flash disabled or not installed, who do not want to wait for the Flash script to download, or are using a non-graphical browser (such as the vision-impaired). You also risk a low search engine ranking if the site is so dependent upon Flash that there is no HTML text for the search engines to grab onto. Much of these issues can be worked around via various techniques to essentially create two pages with code to determine if the user is running Flash or not, though even that may not work well in situation like mine, where I have Flash installed but run Firefox with the Flashblock plug-in.

So my ultimate suggestion is to stick with standard [X]HTML with a bit of JavaScript and/or Flash to enhance the page where appropriate, but not in any way that the page depends upon anything other than HTML to be usable.
