CMS – is it a good choice?

Hello. I am preparing to build a website that I’ll be using for research. Because of the specific requirements that this project has and my lack of skills, I’m debating using one of the free CMS programs that come with my web hosting to help me manage this project. (gotta love Fantastico!) ?

Now, because of my complete lack of experience I’m having a terribly hard time making a decision. I’m really hoping that someone can give me a bit of guidance here. These are the features that the site must have –
– Ability to issue new surveys and questionnaires approximately once a month. And a reminder of some sort to prompt the members to keep up with the questionnaires.
– a forum & PM messaging
– I’d also like for the info gathered to be compiled in a user-friendly way. Ideally I’d be able to search specific questionnaires’ responses or search the whole database depending on my needs.

Does CMS sound like a good choice for my needs or is there a better way to approach this?

@ray326Dec 19.2006 — A CMS sounds like a good way to go but I don't know about the questionaires and their data. If your host doesn't have something that fits then look at http://opensourcecms.com for a bunch of PHP/MySQL based CMS systems.
