What database system to choose?

hello,

I am new at Web Developing and i need some help. I am planning to create a webpage that allows a user to input some info about a person (name,surname,address etc) and then the website will present the user with all the relevant info about the person he is looking for.

The website is going to hold info for approximately 1000 people.

I dont know if there is any better way of doing this (and if there is please tell me) but i am assuming that a database is needed to hold these information.

I am aware of the different databases available for this purpose, but since i am new at this, i am actually wondering what is the best database system and server scripting to choose for my case. The best in terms of efficiency, speed,low budget etc.

I dont know if this is relevant but i am using javascript for my webpage

@pcthugSep 05.2006 — I would suggest using PHP to retrieve data from a MySQL database. My main arguments for the combination are there; speed, cost (both are open-source, i.e. free), portability, power and large user bases.
