Devin Desktop is Cognition's AI-native IDE — rebadged from Windsurf in June 2026 when OpenAI's Codeium acquisition closed and Cognition took the product forward. The default view is now an Agent Command Center: a Kanban board of running agents orchestrating multi-file work.
Cursor's Closest Rival
Built as a VS Code fork with deep AI integration, Devin Desktop competes directly with Cursor on agent mode, tab completion, and MCP. Its SWE-1.5 in-house model costs half a credit per prompt — roughly 1,000 agent prompts per month on Pro.
Agent Command Center
- Kanban orchestration — track multiple agents across tasks visually
- Cascade — multi-file agent with deep codebase awareness
- SWE-1.5 — Cognition's coding model at lower credit cost
- MCP support — same server ecosystem as Cursor and Claude Code
- Migration path — settings, extensions, and keybindings carry over from Windsurf
When to Choose It Over Cursor
Pick Devin Desktop if you want more agent orchestration visibility, prefer SWE-1.5's credit economics, or need FedRAMP/HIPAA compliance options. Pick Cursor for Composer 2.5, Cloud Agents, Automations, and the larger community ecosystem.
