Novice access to database

I am a database application developer, experienced with VB/SQL Server/Oracle, and Access/VBA. But, I don’t know anything about web pages yet.

I need to access a database on my file server from a web page on my ISP. I have no idea how to do this. I would prefer to do this with something like a recordset.

I tried a test by making a Data Access Page in Access. I published this on the ISP, and it was able to get data from my SQL Server DB. But, I don’t want the client machine to need Access installed. So, I know it is possible to access the data.

My ISP will support JavaScript files, .bin, and .exe files, but not .asp. It also supports FrontPage Server Extensions. I tried an example, but couldn’t get this to access a database.

Can someone point me in the right direction on how to access data from a web page with these restrictions?

Thanks in advance for your help.
