Directory browser (similar to file browser, but for a dir)

I’m looking for something where I can browse for and choose an entire directory.

Every other toolkit I’ve used has this functionality and there has to be a way to do it here. When I browse, preferably individual files won’t show up, only dirs and you can click on any dir and browse down further and all.

It’s exactly the same functionality as browsing for a file, just for a directory. Ideas, thoughts, code samples 🙂

@konithomimoJan 13.2006 — Js cannot do this. You would have to use Java to accomplish this (or use an ftp client).

@pinguwinauthorJan 13.2006 — The program is going to run on a unix system so basically it would be on any mounted file system.

Most typically, it would be either on the local disk or a cd.

One poster mentioned that javascript can't do this, if not, perhaps I have two options. Using a python (which are underlying cgi script) program in conjunction with something like AJAX (this is speculative on my part) using python's powerful directory tools.

The other alternative is that the dir that they are looking for has four different files in it. I might say, "Locate your 'Key.xyz' file" by the conventional file dialog provided by html. Not good, but perhaps acceptable.

Somewhere, someone has solved this problem. Whether they are reading this forum is a different issue....
