IMPORTANT! About posting comments!

Hi! I need some help with this, it’s kind of new to me.

My website hoster doesn’t allow Perl or CGI.
So, how can I have a “post comment” type of thing?
Really, what I’m looking for is a pop-up window when a user clicks on a link “Post Comment”. The pop-up will have a text box for ‘name’ and area-textbox for ‘comment’ and a ‘post’ button. When ‘post’ is clicked, the page now says ‘comment posted’, and then a button ‘close’. Back to the page, next to the “Post Comment” link there is a link that says “View Comments”, and there, on a seperate page, the user can see comments for that particular post, and the post that he/she just made.

I have kind of like a journal thing, so there needs to be these 2 links after every entry. What I’m thinking is “view Comments” shouldn’t be too hard. Once a message is posted on that page, the link can then be diverted to a certain portion of the page which contains comments for that particular entry.

Any help would greatly be appreciated. I know this requires great knowledge, which is why I came here.

THanks again!

@JonaNov 21.2004 — JavaScript can't write to files on the server except through XML requests, which would have to be processed by some sort of CGI anyway. In other words, you have to use a server-side language. JavaScript is client-side, so cannot do what you want.

@incubusfanauthorNov 21.2004 — so exactly which language do you suggest I use?

@JonaNov 21.2004 — My personal preference is PHP, but you can also use ASP/ASPX, Perl, ColdFusion, JSP, and C to name a few. The most common are PHP, ASP, and Perl, though. If your server doesn't support it, it's time to get a new host, I'd say.

@incubusfanauthorNov 21.2004 — Thanks a lot. I think I'll research some on PHP. But could you provide me with some guidance and links?

Thanks.

@senshiNov 21.2004 — Or you could look up a free service, plenty that will easily incorporate into your existing web site. Just do a www for free tag & message boards.

Start at www.php.net for PHP. There is a link section on the PHP web site that should help you find other resources as well. Also, search Google, there are a lot of tutorials out there on PHP.
