Higher PageRank With Links Question

I am trying to get a higher listing in Google. I’ve read a several articles that say the more links that I have, with a high PageRank, the higher up the ranking I should appear. Having said that, what page does Google look at when considering the link to my site? Does Google look at the page that I’m listed on or that websites home page?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@MstrBobDec 28.2005 — Apparently, Google looks at how many websites link to your website. The idea is that the more people link to your website, then the more relevant your website must be. It determines relevancy by popularity.

So if you want to work your way up the google results pages, you're going to first and foremost have good content. Search engines can index it, and people will want to return to see the content. Then you're going to have to find a way to get people to link to your website. This can and does happen on it's own, so you can think of advertising to get your website more popular. Or you can do link exchanges, which is when you and another website link to each other, which you'd set up by contacting the webmaster of another website. This doesn't always work, however, as not all webmasters want to exchange links. Advertising seems to be the key, the more people know of your website, generally, the more incoming links you have, and so the higher your Google ranking.

I've used meta tags to boost the rating.. BUT, you must NOT use the same meta tags on each page, AND DO NOT USE ANY .COM .BIZ .whatever in the meta tags. THAT IS A STRICT NO NO...

Hope that helps

@felgallDec 28.2005 — Quality of links is as important as quantity.

Quality is measured both by the relevance of the link (relationship between the topics covered by both sites) and the Larry Page (rank) of the web page that has the link.

Google have recently reduced the importance of Page Rank and now use a lot of other factors in determining page relevance as well.

@jonathanhouauthorDec 28.2005 — Thanks for the advice. But does Google, when looking at the PageRank for relevant links, look at the page that my website is linked from or does Google look at that websites home page?

Example:

Say that if xyz.com has a PageRank of 7 and xyz.com/link.htm has a page rank of 3. If my site is listed on the home page (PageRank 7) rather than the link page, will that benefit me more?

What other things do they factor in?

@johnfloydDec 28.2005 — Will Google consider more than one link on a particular web site? For example, if a Directory with High Page Rank links to you on several pages is that one link or several links???
Copy linkTweet thisAlerts:
@jonathanhouauthorDec 28.2005 — I'm guessing here, but I think the more, the better.

@cangellJan 03.2006 — One thing I read above... Google uses the pagerank of the exact page you are linked on to determine pagerank of your site.

Quality is far more important than quantity.. 2 PR eight's are far better than 12 PR one's.

Type of site is critical also... Google looks for a hosting site to have links from web development sites, etc., not wood working or jewelery

@emanresu1Jan 17.2006 — There is a calculation used for this, it is very complaicated as you mentioned before about the main page rank and the subdomain page rank but this will help.

If you have a PR5 and want a PR6 then you need 3xPR7's to link to you.

Another way is to get 18xPR6's linking to you.

Make sure there are not too many links from the page linking to you or it's less important.

@jonathanhouauthorFeb 04.2006 — Thanks emanresu1! But say you have a pagerank of 2 and you want to get to 7. If I get three sites to link to me that have a 7, will that work?

@johnfloydFeb 04.2006 — Question is...How do you get sites with significant pagerank to link to you???
Copy linkTweet thisAlerts:
@felgallFeb 04.2006 — For every page rank 2 there will be hundreds or thousands of page rank 1s. For every page rank 7 there will be hundreds of page rank 6s. You can count the number of page rank 10s on one hand.

This should give you some idea of the relative value of links of different page ranks. Of course being relevant links (related topics) is considered to be more important than the actual Larry of the link.

Success!
