Program to test form and download

hi all.

i’ve been asked by my boss to find a program to test a download link..

it needs to fill out a form then click a download button and keep a log of the response and it must do so every hour.

i’ve never heard of a program that could do this, but i’m sure there’s one out there that i haven’t come across yet.

any ideas?

thanks!

@welshNov 30.2005 — um, if you want you could make yourself an autoit bot. which on command would if IE wasnt open.

Open IE,

Go to the Site,

Go to the form,

Fill in the form,

Hit the download link,

take a print screen of the link,

open paint,

paste the image,

save it as like img0001,

sleep for an hour,

repeat all that but save as img0002.

that would give you tell you if the download link was functional or not. the bot simulates mouse and keyboard movements so every hour for a few minutes you wouldnt be able to use the computer but it would be the same for every program. You can do alot with AutoIt v3.

@ray326Dec 01.2005 — O'reilly has a book on programming web clients with Perl. You could build something from that. You could also do it with one of the Java-based test tools descended from Junit like HTTPunit.
