Size of my web page – SEO

Hello everyone

I’m trying to get my first web site seen but its failing to get picked up by any search engine (been out for 5 weeks).

Can you tell me if the size of the site directly affects the possibility of Google, Yahoo etc finding it?

I know the site is big and probably need to compress it somehow. Can anyone tell me how to do it?

Any other contructive comments on the site are welcome!

but the size of the site is not big so you have no need to reduce the size.

I'm on 256Kbps and it loads quite fast for me.

If you make your styles and scripts external and tried to reduce the amount of presentational HTML that you use then that'll be a good help.

I checked. Your site is in Google. And Netscape too.

No one is visiting because no one can find your site through these search engines.

Why? Because you have not optimized it.

You need to do some work on better keywords than tyne velo. I presume that's the name of the club.

Not too many people search for that phrase (except maybe those who already know about the club).

Brainstorm phrases that someone might use to search for what you offer. Then optimize your pages for those words. No need to pay a professional when you can do it yourself.

I don't understand whats going on here!

If I send them a link by email its fine! Even those members without broadband say it loads from a link in approx 10 seconds - fine!

But search in Google for tynevelo, tyne or velo and nothing????

If its a keyword problem surely members searching with tynevelo should find it!

I've taken advice from others at the forum and embeded the keywords & checked the title tags. This is driving me nuts!!

Anything to help would be appreciated.

It seems as most search engines currently use inbound links and their corresponding link text as the main criteria for ranking a site. Additionally if you have good inbound links the search engines will find your site regularly.

The reason they use inbound links as their primary criteria is because it’s a lot harder to find inbound links than it is to stuff your keywords tag or site body with tons of keywords. When you do go looking for links it is important to find relevant links both because they will provide traffic but also because the search engines see more value in relevant links than those which are from random sites like www.poker-sex-viagra.com
