HTML 4.0 Strict

Hi. just wondering if anyone knows of websites containing information on HTML 4.0 Strict

Im having alot of trouble trying to find specific information on tags and attributes for it. When i search for 4.0 strict alot of 4.01 comes up which isnt what im looking for.

Cheers for any help

@CharlesJan 20.2005 — There is really only one source, The HTML 4.01 Specification. Be warned though. It reads like Kierkegaard. Each section starts our with a formal, unintelligible statement that is then explained. If you get hung up on the first part then you will never move on to understanding. Just keep reading, over and over again until you understand it all. And do the same with Kierkegaard; it's wonderful stuff.

@SammehauthorJan 20.2005 — Cheers, ive tried reading through some of it and its not all that easy to follow, and the downside being its 4.01.

Ive got to construct a website in html 4.0 strict and i cant use common attributes either. its abit of a pain in the arse.

@CharlesJan 20.2005 — Oops, sorry about that. The 4.0 Spec can be found at http://www.w3.org/TR/1998/REC-html40-19980424/ . But do try to convince your boss to use 4.01. 4.0 had a few problems and has been replaced by 4.01.

There's not much I can say of the Spec. being too much for your intellectual abilities except to note that I'm not that smart and I could figure it out. Just keep reading.

@SammehauthorJan 27.2005 — Right, if anyone is looking for a complete list of tags and attributes for more or less every version of html then look no further than :

Openlab

@FangJan 27.2005 — html4 does not have a valid DTD, html4.01 does: http://www.w3.org/QA/2002/04/valid-dtd-list.html

@CharlesJan 27.2005 — Strictly speaking/writing HTML 4.0 has a valid DTD but does not have a valid DTD that "you can use in your document."

Success!
