Web site, specicif link counter

I have a web page that allows downloads of a PDF file and whould really like to have a counter to keep track of the number of times the file is downloaded. I see lots of free counters on the web, but they require PERL and cgi which I have no knowledge of.

Can anyone help me with a source of code to do this? Either HTML or Javascript?

Thanks in advance,

@NogDogSep 24.2004 — If you want this feature, then you'll have to bite the bullet and code it on the server side in some manner. HTML and JavaScript run on the client side in the browser, but you need to record and retrieve the number of hits on the server side to be of any use.
