Intro and questions

Hello everybody,

Some of you may have seen me around here before. My name is Lee Underwood and I am the Managing Editor of WebDeveloper.com. I try to monitor these forums but there are a number of them and you guys keep them busy, so I do my best.

In addition, I also do a few other things around Jupitermedia, such as write articles and reviews for WebReference.com. The articles/reviews I write are meant for people like you – those who create the Web sites for the rest of the world to visit. One of the articles I am working on is a series on search engine optimization. What I am interested in is what you guys – out there in the “real” world – would like, and need, to know about optimizing your site for search engines. I know there are a lot of “myths” and misunderstandings so I want to help clear those up.

So, let me hear it … (remember, just questions relating to Web development).

@newbie007Feb 23.2005 — Hi,

So you r a guru....

Probably you already forgot about this article, but it was great if you write a step by step guide for a website search engine (just to search our own site). Is it just a script or do we need database connections?

best regards

@IntensityFeb 24.2005 — What about the importance of Website Content hot spots(Can't think of the name used around the net) . Something in the direction of www.eyetracker.com

Many believe that Google is / will be adding value to content in a particular area. At this time peoples main concern is to adding keywords to a contents first paragraph, main text, footer, etc etc. Now, the word around the net is that certain areas of a web page are becoming devalued. Example given (obvious): Footer since it is notorious for site maps and link building. If areas of a web page can become devalued, what other spots would receive higher consideration for the full blast vote? Maybe links on the side margin navigational areas?

@IntensityFeb 24.2005 — Another one.

People are claiming that Google is beginning to ignore the Title tag and using the first sentences in the heading paragraph and places it on the Website description when people utilize their search engines. I have yet to find any evidence. Is this true?

If so, will the Title tag still have its dominance in the ranking factors. (That might be impossilbe to answer without given research)

This would revise Optimization strategies and everyone would start finding ways to stuff keywords into this one sentence!! How would SEO experts be able to concentrate on the customer, if this happened.. Keyword, Keyword, Keyword, Keyword, Customer, Keyword.+

This is just about how it would look. Interesting to see how this develops. Hope it is a myth.
