Hey guys, I am new here and need a little help. Someone I know wants me to create a site for them where they can sell things but I don’t know what I need in terms of software and code. Is the shopping cart thing and the ability to buy things easy to put on a site or does it require proffesional hosting. Please give me any info you know about this.

@MstrBobJul 15.2004 — If you're going to be doin ecommerce, you will of course need professional, paid hosting. It will require the use of a database and server side langauge. You then have the choice of coding the entire thing in your select server side langauge, or using premade scripts. You also then have to decide how transactions will be held. Will you use a thrid party, like [URL=http://www.paypal.com/]PayPal[/URL]? If not, you will need to use SSL, fully understand it and make pretty damn sure you know what you are doing since you will be handling people's credit cards.

My advice: Unless you've done this before, pay a proffessional. If you simply don't have the time to learn a server side language and/or code a shopping cart utility, use a premade one. Decide if you really know enough https://, if you need to hire someone familiar, or if you need to use third party.
