Building a wordpress website offline

I’m looking to make a WordPress website offline. Currently I’m trying to build a website slowly on HostGator using the Avada theme but its slow going and it would be easier for me to do the website on my computer and once its ready to go I can upload the website to HostGator.

Can you tell me what software i need to get to do this and if you know of a good book or learning resource I would appreciate a recommendation.

@rtretheweyMay 04.2016 — You'll need to install a web server on your computer with PHP and mySQL support. Check out packages like WAMPP and XAMPP. These packages install like any other app, but they let you work in a live online environment.

When you are finish with the tweaking of your Wordpress site, install a ftp client like Filezilla, login using your ftp login details and just upload your finish sites to your web server.
