free domain or subdomain

Hi guys,
I need your help. I am a beginer in web-design.
Looking for free domain or subdomain for my site without any pops and ads but with all necessary supports and quite reliable at the same time.
My plan is to test my site on free domain for a while and perhaps I will move on paid domain later.
So what can you suggest?

@AdamGundryApr 14.2004 — I believe DotTK can be quite good, provided you get enough traffic to keep the domain open.

@wayfarerauthorApr 16.2004 — Actually I tried to register at DotTk a few days ago and I am still waiting for their reply.

Do you know any others?

@AdamGundryApr 16.2004 — I think when I set one up a while back it took a while to sort out, so it might still become available. I've also heard of http://www.freedomain.co.nr/ but I've never used it so I don't know how well it works.

@wayfarerauthorApr 16.2004 — Thank you Adam,

I did try freedomain.co.nr a couple of days ago and have not got a confirmation letter from them yet. Although they made a note that I should wait for about 72 hours.

@vinothApr 21.2004 — free domain .co.nr allows only legal sites, if u wish to start an site based like hacking or anyother i say move towards .tk

they are best, they donot trouble u at any time once registered.

no, thats not a domain. Cjb.net is a redirect and cjb.net also sucks pretty sevearly. www.no-ip.com has better redirect service and offers free dns if you are running your own server. www.vze.com has better redirect service too. .tk and .co.nr are not dns, they are domain redirects, that is what I do not like about them, it can hurt your ability to track site stats and could potentially interfear with some scripts.

@gim12345Jun 02.2004 — must of these places offer fairly limited service. Why not sign up for cheap hosting with someone like neureal.com - for $10 a month you can host up to 15 domains, unlimited sub domains. It's worth the piece of mind and as a beginner it's good to get to know your way around a hosting control panel.

Also, if you having trouble finding a domain name, try out mydomainfriend.com , it's a great free tool for combining keywords and domain searching.

good luck.

@alipkNov 03.2006 — Hi,

Visit www.freedomainspot.com

They provide free .com .net and .org domain names.

They require a banner to be put at the top of website.

Good Luck

@WebJoelNov 03.2006 — I am fond of awardspace.com. Free sub-domain, supports several server-side options, lots of space (200MB for the FREE hosting!), AD-FREE, reliable, they let you have your favicon (many FREE sites forbid this), they leave you alone (no spam-mails to 'upgrade' although they have GREAT upgrade options), you can conduct commerce on your site ("sell stuff") without problems (most FREE hostings won't let you sell stuff or if they DO, it is stuff also hosted within their domain, etc), or use favicons, because this constitutes "advertising"). I like 'em.
