queries about other languages should probably go in the General forum.
Plus most things like that would/should be covered in the General Section.
Also please note that thos thread deserves a better name, not to devalue Ryan in any respect, as he does not deserve to be devalued. The title of this thread could be changed to at least include the topic you are posting about, the General Forum!

@96turnerriauthorMar 28.2004 — no i dont think he really likes me, as when i pm him he doesnt reply, unless hes just busy, thats why i posted this thread, as when he has time he can reply. theres no rush

@steelersfan88Mar 28.2004 — job done for you, we will await a reply.

I don't think it is that ryan doesn't like you, he is really busy and is backlogged from all of my private messages (?) right now. And now one more.

OK, so maybe he does, as he just left the forums without replying, or viewing my pm. he probably realized I sent it and wanted to leave ? ? ?

@96turnerriauthorMar 28.2004 — actually i should really pm him, i dont want everyone to see what i saying ?, what i will do is wait till he replies here and then talk to him directly

@pyroMar 28.2004 — The best answer for this question would come from one of the administrators, but my take on it is that the general section is basically a catch-all for questions that do not fit anywhere. We try to keep the off-topic posts to a minimum, as much as possible, as the main aim for the forums is to help people with their web development questions, not be a place for people to hang out and chat - there are plenty of those on the internet. That being said, we aren't incredibly strict, and will let some topics go if they aren't doing any harm. On the weekends (Friday through Sunday) one off topic thread is allowed, though again, we don't necessarily enforce this rigoursly.

BTW, no, I do not ignore you. However, I don't enjoy helping people through PM, and will (usually) refer quesions to the forums, and attempt to help them there. Also, as this is volunteer work, "real" work comes first. I've not had as much time to devote to the forums as I have in the past, and I'm find it harder to get to everything.

@96turnerriauthorMar 28.2004 — ok as i thought, i posted a thread earlier about seti, but it was deleted i presume by you, i dont know for a fact, but i was not informed of it which annoyed me a bit, the reason being lets say

new user post a off topic thread in general

mod/admin deletes this thread

user sees its not there and reposts,

gets deleted

user get annoyed, as does mod,

jupiter reps see this admin, gets stick

IMO a pm wouldnt have gone a miss, as i did not know what i done wrong, post didnt fit anywhere except general, is the general forum, general stuff, general web dev, general what, to most people this forum looks like a misc forum to post anything, in the js forum there a message posting guidelines but not here, or an alternative a short desc under forum link would be another good idea

i understand completly about this is voluntary and work comes before i am snowed under with work atm and havnt been on here properly for a while now

Rich

@pyroMar 28.2004 — The thread was deleted because not only did it have nothing to do with web development, but you were looking for people to "join" you at another site. It seemed to me (though I could be wrong) that you were simply looking to send traffic to the seti site. It all boils down to the fact that it looked like an advertisement to me.
Copy linkTweet thisAlerts:
@96turnerriauthorMar 28.2004 — yes and no it was an advertisment i guess, but to me an advertisment is something that is used to generate traffic or business to a site for a profit, but this was not, i could say the same about you with your web design company link in your signature, to me yes it was off topic and it was in general forum on a weekend, so this is fine, i dont do it often as i hope you will agree, i occassionally go off topic but that cant always be helped and it is not all of the time.

The signature is the appropriate place for this. We allow uses to provide links back to their own sites (or any other appropriate site) in their sig.

As far as going off topic, it's not that big of a deal, unless people start getting ridiculous with it or take the thread OT before the original posters question gets answered.
