I may be way off base here. Is it possible to call the connection speed of a hit to a site? The main purpose would be to redirect slower connections to a less graphics intensive version of the same site.
@steelersfan88Mar 27.2004 — #javascript isn't the right language. Other languages, like flash, may be able to do this. The information would have to be processed on the server, and then changes the page to either a graphic or text page, depending on speed. Try the General forum, sinc eI don't know how this could be gone about solving ?
@VladdyMar 27.2004 — #There is no reliable way of doing it fast. You may be able to send a block of data and time it's delivery, but in order to average possible network jams, this block would need to be rather large, and very few users will care about waiting for your site to determine connection speed.
If graphics IS your content and you've done your best optimizing the graphics size, the best thing to do is give user a choice which version of the site they would like to visit.
@steelersfan88Mar 27.2004 — #have it start out as the non-grpahics one and provide a link between the two // or // have it start with two links, where they get to choose (i'm not sure which vladdy was referring to, but either is not too bad of an option). If you don't want links, then always use the non-grpahical one.
@jcdauthorMar 28.2004 — #Well thanks for the info. It confirmed what I thought. It does look like the 2 option select page is it. I have optomized til I'm nuts and I'm at 33 sec @ 56k.
