Pattern matching

I have been trying to write a pattern for validating an email address. I am having problems with specifying the end of teh pattern. The email address must have a full stop followed by two or three characters.

Here is the expression that I have written:-

^[w-_.]*[w-_.]@[w].+[w]+[w]$

could anyone tell me where I am going wrong?

Thanks
