@Kevin2Oct 21.2014 — 35 file requests

1401.35 KB page weight (that's ~1.4 MEGAbytes!)

Why do you expect this page to function on 2G? On a connection speed rivaling dialup? Basically this page could take upwards of 8 minutes to load on 2G networks. No wonder it fails.

So what will work on 2G? One must remember that 2G is barely adequate for text-messaging much less opening any web page. There's your hint: A text-based page being served to those devices. Your total page weight (html, css, js, images, etc.) should be less than 100kb. Preferably closer to 20-30kb. Your current HTML is 29kb...

What would you be allowed for that page weight? An HTML file of <5kb, CSS ditto, minimal (if any) JavaScript, a Logo image and one highly optimized photograph. Everything else would be plain text. That includes all your links. No outside resources (GA, webfonts, JQuery etc.), no links/images to/from social networking (likely a user on 2G wouldn't be able to use them anyway). That gives you 4-5 file requests, all to your server, and with appropriate optimizing of images a page weight of 20-30 kilobytes.

How do you do this? First, ditch Wordpress and its bloated mess of CSS and JS. You have 2 files, with the ironic and oxymoronic names "autoptimizexxxxxx.css" and "autoptimizexxxxxx.js", which are intended (I think) to create the mobile version of your page. Those 2 files alone account for almost 500kb of your page weight. And to boot they create a broken mobile version! Next, get rid of the slider. The 2 images shown there account for another 1/2MB. We're down to ~400kb now. More than likely you could get by with less than 5kb of CSS. I'm not joking. Get rid of the web fonts. And, and, and ...

Is it worth all this effort? Only you can decide. How much traffic do you get from devices accessing on 2G? Does/will that traffic translate into income?

And if your only skills as a "web developer" are knowing how to install and use Wordpress along with its templates/plugins you are well and truly screwed.
