Tracking different E-commerce stages when the URL stays the same throughout……

We have an order form which is reasonably lengthy and we’d like to track the different stages to figure out if people are pulling out during the process or not. The problem being the order form is on a single URL and doesn’t change until the Thank You screen.

We have implemented Tag Manager (but wish to avoid it if we can)

Any help you can shed would be ace.
