Think about it, link spammers are looking only to link from pages that does not contain no-follow links. This means that if someone gets nofollow links he do not think to manipulate search engine rankings, but to get some traffic or some popularity from that link.

I 100% Agree, no follow is used to purely inform the visitor to the web site

Correct me if I'm wrong guys but isn't it that the purpose of nofollow is not to have the search engine leave your site. That being said the target url will not be discovered.
