Custom personal search engine

I don’t have much in the way of skill set with coding. Having said that, I would like to have a personal search engine for my image gallery. Ideally this search engine would only read my image ‘alt’ tags and then display the results in tiled thumbnails.

I’ve had a look at the Google offerings but during testing I did not get the results I wanted. For some reason Google doesn’t read the alt tags.

I need help. Is what I want even doable?
