Google will not list me! Please help

Hello all:

I created the following site for one of our customers. I cannot get Google to visit or list the site at all. Yahoo picked it up right away. Could you view the site, and tell me what I am doing wrong? Please email me at [email][email protected][/email] if you have any answers.

@qledgeJun 15.2005 — for google to list your site quickly, this are some suggestions:

1) submit your site a few more times, googe accept multiple submissions.

2) build a google-sitemap

3) google works by crawling the web and indexing the results in their servers, so build up links to your website.

@TechEvangelistJun 16.2005 — Google won't index your site until it sees links to it from other sites. It is futile to repeatedly submit a site and Google tells you that on the submission page. Start listing the site in some of the thousands of free directories that are out there. Here is a starter list along with instructions:

Also, most new sites get thrown into the Google Sandbox and they won't rank well for probably 5 or 6 months. In the meantime, build your content and slowly build links to your site. You'll find into about the Sandbox here:

If it is listed in the directory, most probably the majority of the search engines will pick up from there.

One bad thing, it takes a long time for them to manually review your site and approved it for directory listing.

Nice looking site. I don't see anything on your site that would prevent it from getting noticed by Google, so that's good.

Here's what Mike says about Google:

"Google is picky, and will not index you if you’re not linked to by other sites. Yahoo is more lenient."

So the best thing you can do right now is go on a link campaign to get some inbound links, and also get listed in directories.

What was said before about the Google sandbox is correct--it will take longer to get page ranking.

In fact, I would advise NEVER submit your site to Google. It takes too long.

The best way to get into Google is to let IT find you.

Here's what you need to do:

Get your site's link listed on a high PR site. If you're able to get on PR5 or PR6 site, you'll be indexed by Google in about one week. (2-3 days for PR7)

How to get the link? Well, you'll need to do some work. See if you can contact the webmaster to exchange links. If not, pay for ad space on the site for one month. Once you're in Google you can discontinue the ad the following month.

Getting into Google is only the first step. You'll still need to optimize your site. There's no use getting into Google but showing up at number #239 when someone does a search.

Additionally, I use Google adwords and have installed the analytics code on my site. Although the visits to my site are tracked correctly, the conversions (Goals) are not tracked at all, even though the code is in place. Why is google ignoring their own code????

@DudleyDec 08.2005 — Sayboy1, forget about rank positions for a while. Most new sites will not rank well for up to a year in Google due to the Sandbox. The problem is one of assessing why G won't index your site.

I took a look at the site and one problem I saw is with the link to a banned (or heavily penalized or new) site on the lease-purchase-investors.php page. Read the Google Guidelines pages: [URL=http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html]Webmaster Guidelines[/URL]

Check out the line that says: "In particular, avoid links to web spammers or bad neighborhoods on the web, as your own ranking may be affected adversely by those links."

I have experienced precipitous drops in rank positions across an entire site due to a single link to a banned site. With a new site, it may be the reason that G is not indexing your site. I would remove that link and any others to sites that do not exhibit indexed pages, backlinks and cached copies of pages (all three). If your site is penalized, it may take up to 30 days for G to start indexing the site.

If you check your server logs, you will probably find that GoogleBot is visiting, but pages are not being added to the index due to a penalty.
