Return inside functions

Hello everybody,
I’ve been struggeling with this for a while now. But i can’t find a solution.
This is my code

[CODE]
function Dummy(value)
{
var r;
db.transaction(function (tx)
{
tx.executeSql(‘SELECT * FROM `xx` WHERE `xxx` = ? AND `xxxx` = ?’, [value, xxxx], function (tx, results)
{
if(results.rows.length) r = true;
else r = false;
}, function(tx, error) { displayError(error)) });

});
return r;
}
[/CODE]

The query works. result.rows.length works. But i can’t assign the ‘r’ variable. The code keeps returning undefined.

So how can I return Dummy true/false considering results.rows.length.

@bionoidJan 10.2012 — If your SQL statement is happening [COLOR="Blue"]asynchronously[/COLOR], then you are probably getting [B]undefined[/B] as a result right?

If it is then [B]Dummy[/B] and [B]tx.executeSql[/B] would have finished executing and returned their results before [B]tx.executeSql[/B] has completed and modified the value of r.

As a suggestion you could also pass an anonymous function to be called when the statements results have returned eg:

[CODE]function Dummy(value, [COLOR="red"]callback[/COLOR])
{
db.transaction(function (tx)
{
tx.executeSql('SELECT * FROM xx WHERE xxx = ? AND xxxx = ?', [value, xxxx], function (tx, results)
{
[COLOR="red"]callback(results.rows.length ? true : false);[/COLOR]
}, function(tx, error) { displayError(error)) });
});
}

Dummy(123, [COLOR="Red"]function(r)
{
if (r) {
//DO THIS
} else {
//DO THAT
}
}[/COLOR]);[/CODE]
