AdWords Questions

I’ve asked this on another forum but didn’t get good answers. When entering keywords for AdWords, does it make sense to include place names in them? I know Google should match the user’s location with my campaign’s geographical preference, but what if the user includes a place name in his search? Will my site be a candidate if I don’t have that place in a keyword?

Another question – does my site’s search engine optimization or lack thereof have any result on presentation of my ads, or is it all driven by the dollars budgeted for the ads?

@regansNov 18.2011 — Ad rank = CPC x Quality Score. Several factors are included in the quality score, as follows:

- keyword's clickthrough rate (CTR)

- the relevance of the keyword (searches vs competition)

- ad's text and landing page

So the money investment is a quotient that multiplies by these three factors above.

@C_RebeccaNov 19.2011 — To target traffic, you can opt for either of the two AdWords strategies

-One for keywords that include place names (plumber birmingham etc)

-Other using Exact match terms without a place

Having place names gives you added benefit of ad visibility in that particular area.

Both SEO and your budget have impact on presentation of your ads. AdWords allows you set a budget and this budget will decide how to spread your ads. Usually higher bidders get their ads listed often.

Whats the use of putting an ad on a poorly optimized website? So optimization is equally important.
