Free scripts are obviously good for what they are, being free that is.

many of them are reasonably advanced and have communities that are developed and folks are ready to provide guidance and support.

By the same token, there are paid scripts which also have crowded communities. As for costs, any decent script will probably cost something. Another thing you are looking for is its business model.

Craigslist clones work just like Craigslist, but are obviously not Craigslist. others allow you to have ads posted after registration, yet the others still can allow ad posting without an account.

I've used Esvon in the past, which was good, but expensive.

another good one was iLister (by worksforweb), definitely cheaper, but just as nice.

There's also Eclassifieds, but they seem to be selling the same stuff for quite a while, and they have an almost free version, but limited of course.

You need to dig in yourself and do some window shopping or use trials to see how scripts work and whether they do the trick for you.
