reference html variables in php???

Specifically I have a form with multiple fields in one .shtml document. I also have a php document design to use the mail() function and include some parameters from which are going to be information from the fields in the .shtml doc.

Both documents work separately and i have tried everything i could think of (which isn’t much because i am a php noob ) to ‘link’ the two files so the name of the fields in the .shtml document could be referenced in the php document.

I have gotten as far as getting the .shtml document to load and the javascript on that page to execute when the submit button is hit. I then load the php document and runs the correct script and even sends an email but it is blank; none of the parameters specified in the mail() function are included in the email.

i am out of ideas and google has not been very helpful thus far so i am turning to the community for help.
