Apache server problems

Hey

I downloaded and installed NetBeans.
I followed the instructions like the NetBeans installation instructions said…
First I downloaded JDK 6 Update 19 JDK.
Then I downloaded the FULL installation of NetBeans.
During the installation I chose customize and selected to install Apache Tomacat, so thats installed too.

Well I opened NetBeans and went to create a new PHP project. Under the Run Configuration I selected “Local Web Site (running on local web server)” for Run As.
But now I am confused about what to put in the Project URL field.
Currently it says “http://localhost/PhpProject1/” in this field.

Additional info:
I opened up an IE window and in the address bar I typed in http://localhost. It gives me the error “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage”. I dont know if this means something is not setup correctly or not.

Can anyone help me get this setup correctly?

Thanks

@skywalker2208Apr 09.2010 — Have you installed apache? If not I would suggest Xampp or Wamp.

@huttetoauthorApr 09.2010 — Yes, I installed it when I installed Netbeans. It is an option within the Netbeans installation to install Apache Tomcat.

@MacPCApr 09.2010 — This sounds silly, but make sure your Apache is running.

Secondly, "Currently it says "http://localhost/PhpProject1/" in this field." you might want to try http://localhost/PhpProject1/ instead of http://localhost, also check if you have a file named index.html in that directory.

@huttetoauthorApr 09.2010 — nah, its not silly, thats what I was wondering myself...

I'm using Windows XP Pro. When I installed Apache Tomcat(within the NetBeans 6.8 installation), shouldnt it have created a folder or item somewhere in the start menu somewhere? Nothing having to do with Apache is in there. How do I make sure its installed correctly? Also exactly where is the http://localhost directory lcoated?

About 2 years ago, I installed WAMP on another computer and I got it working(but it was obviously different from installing it from NetBeans). I just dont understand what Im missing here. It seems odd that there is nothing about Apache in my start menu, cause I would think there would be.

@ChipzzzApr 10.2010 — From what I gather, Tomcat defaults to port 8080, so that to see its default homepage you would use the url http://localhost:8080.

Also, the quickest way to find the web root would be to look for tomcat's installation directory (I think it defaults to c:tomcat) and search for "index.html" in Windows explorer.

Finally, you probably installed tomcat to run as a service, so it should start automatically when Windows boots. You can check that easily by opening Task Manager and looking through the running processes.

My own local servers are in Virtualboxes running Linux, so I'm not much of an expert in the the area you're asking about, but it seemed like you had been waiting a while for an answer so I hope this helps ? .

Best of luck,

Chipzzz
