Simple HTML Editor? Preferably Freeware?

Can anyone recommend a decent simple to use and preferably freeware HTML editor? I found a few but don’t know what’s the best or recommended. I just want something for basic and quick HTML editing (with possible CSS and Javascript support).

thanks!

@Andrew_HucksJul 17.2008 — Use Notepad. (Start > Run > Notepad.exe)

It may be an unappreciated program, but you'll be doing all the coding, which means it is easier for you to find and fix any mistakes. Also, if you code it all in a simple type program, you'll learn it better and won't make as many mistakes.

@htwingnutauthorJul 17.2008 — I use notepad, but it's nice to have quick tags, line numbers, and block highlighting to make sure you've closed everything out appropriately. I used a program a number of years ago, but can't recall what it was, and it was simple but very effective. I haven't done much programming since then so don't have a copy in my archives.

I found "Plain Edit": http://www.gaijin.at/dlplainedit.php

It is simple and effective, but want to know if there is something else available to consider.

Just be sure not to become hooked on Quick Tags. ;-)

@WebJoelJul 17.2008 — "editplus2" is easy, fast, reliable. There is a 'trial period' and unless they have changed this, the software continues to run (in 'full version') even after the 'trial period' and expired. You just get (or, used to get??) a 'friendly reminder' to register/buy.

I find editplus2 FAR easier to use than "HTMLkit", which is superior most likely, but editplus2 can do a lot of languages besides HTML, like CSS, C/C++, Perl, *JS, PHP, JAVA, XML, VBScript, etc etc....
