Link Reciprocation & Google

I have a website supporting American companies. We have members and their informaion with an Outbound link to their website and we have given them code that provides an image, alt tag and link back to our website.

Granted we have about 40 members so far and maybe half of them have added the inbound link to us so far but I am curious – Google shows zero Inbound OR Outbound links.

We have many relevant keywords with text on the pages to support them, our site is on Google (every page of our site), we have an html sitemap that links to every page on our site as well as an xml site map setup with Googles own preferences, we have Google analytics, we have verified our site with Google, when you type in very specific information into the search engine it finds those companies linking to us and our links to them – so why are the SEO tools with Google showing Zero links?

The link popularity of our site is everything – any suggestions on whatelse we can do?

@yamaharussApr 03.2008 — Keep adding more links to your site wherever you can. It takes time depending on how well those other sites are indexed.

I know that the inbound links have this popularity rating and if the customers website isn't popular the link isn't as important - but I kept thinking since there ARE links, they should at least be showing up when you check them like with backlink checkers... it's been numerous months - I was just thinking maybe there was something else I could do or that I had done something wrong :rolleyes: well, I'm pretty sure nothings wrong ~ it's just Googles inefficiencies with their robots. :p

It didn't hurt to ask! ?

in google.com, if you do site:yourdomain.com, you're going to get inaccurate results back.

try yahoo's site explorer:

http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/

(use the search bar at the top and do http://www.domain.com)

this will produce much more accurate results.

to get an accurate result from google, use their Webmaster Tools:

http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/

Yahoo shows better inbound links than Google's site and Google's webmaster tools solution offers more accurate inbound link info as well, however they're all mis-leading and inaccurate. This reality changes over time as both Yahoo and Google work on their algorithms.

I maintain the SEO initiatives for a plethora of web sites. In just one example, Yahoo shows over 350 inbound links - google.com shows none, and Google Webmaster tools shows 65. Note too that recently Googles Webmaster tools system has been very unstable - having intermittent difficulty processing site verification requests, generating incorrect information regarding sitemap.xml files for short periods of time, ect. So I am guessing that their link: feature is also currently less than accurate.

The Yahoo results include in their results about 50 of the site's own pages, implying that pages within that very site are providing links into itself. The whole notion of the link:www.mysitewhatever.com feature is supposed to show how many other sites link back to my site, so those 50 listed pages are not supposed to be there.

This happens because their software is far from perfect.

Nevertheless, Yahoo's results tend to be more accurate than Google's for the most part. This wasn't always the case.

As for Google's results, I've found that in recent months, they're really only showing links back from sites that for the most part are, themselves, ranked sites. Yet refer to my note above about the intermittent issues Google's been having...

It's not always about how many sites link back either. The higher the rank of a site that links back, the more weight that one link carries. So a link back to your site from cnn.com is going to carry more weight than a link back from somegenericsite.com


In any case, just keep doing what you are doing - it's all always about time and energy. Apply enough energy over a long enough period of time, and the results will follow.?
