Help me find the mistakes which make my site unpopular

Hello!
I designed a site http://morada.bgone.net/indexe.htm … which still appears to be unpopular in search engines. Can you please help me find my mistakes in the search-engine submissions or in the code itself to fix it and get more visitors?
Thank you for your time!

As you can see, ... it's a lot of gebrish worbage...

Your META TAG "KEYWORDS" is not USED... and it's not in the right place...

Use this as your meta tag for keywords...

<meta name="keywords" content="your related keywords here">

Good luck...

PS: Take out most of your keyword from example above... leave approx 10-12 words...

Later.

@pipiaauthorDec 05.2006 — Hello!

Thank you for your reply and thank you for your time!

I will fix the encoding of the unreadable key-words. Why do I have to leave so little words (10-12)?
Copy linkTweet thisAlerts:
@MaXsKiDec 05.2006 — The reason is because webspiders go through your keywords, sitemaps, links, content, etc. It's always better to have no more than 12 keywords... Make all your keywords stand out...

@svidgenJan 03.2007 — Also keep in mind, the keywords indicated in your meta tags are only suggestions for search engines. If they correspond to what the search engine thinks your page is about, that boosts your rank. However, keywords ranking is going to be determined largely by how often and where those keywords appear in the page(s) and the URL(s). Most of my pages have blank meta tags and still get not only first page, but first position listings on google for some offbeat keywords, because I use them regularly in the page, and the most important keyword(s) are also in the URL (high importance is placed on this by many engines).

For example, the following page is often listed in the first page or two on google and other engines for some phrases involving "thanksgiving turkey" and "truth": http://thepointless.com/?c=thanksgiving_turkey

Ranking overall is going to be determined by keyword ranking plus page rank in general, which is largely determined by how many pages link in. Although, some engines, like google, also base rank on how active the site appears (how often content changes or new content appears).

As in real life, on the net, the popular become more popular. Get some other sites to link in, or exchange links with. Also, as said before, pick a few keywords, 10-12 is a good number, and make sure they're and related words used in the page when possible. Don't force them in, of course; but, use them when possible. Also, try picking keywords/phrases that are more complex and less popular. You'll be more likely to get ranked higher for those.

Hope that helps.

@marybeshawJan 30.2007 — I went to Yahoo! Site Explorer to see if there are any incoming links

to your site. But Yahoo! Site Explorer says that the site is not a valid URL/domain.

It's important that your site is up and working when the search engines come calling.

I can't tell you more than that because I don't know. I'm still studying up on SEO/SEM myself. The book I'm reading is "Search Engine Marketing, Inc." by Mike Moran and Bill Hunt. It's kind of boring for a techie like me, but still full of good information. From what I understand, SEO/SEM has no quick and easy answer; it's a combination of several factors over a long time period.

@marybeshawJan 30.2007 — A couple of thoughts:

If you move your javascript code within the <script> tags into a separate page, it will reduce bulk and allow the search engines to more properly index the site. Also, browsers will cache the javascript file, making load time faster for repeat site visitors and visitors who go to more than one page on your site.

Put a line like the following within your <head> tag, then move the scripts to the coordinating file.

<script type="text/javascript" src="script.jss" ></script>

Also, validate your HTML. This will make your site easier for search engines to parse.

http://validator.w3.org/

Add alt attributes to your <img> tags:

<img src="x.jpg" alt="Description of image" />

This will improve accessibility for alternate browsers AND search engines at the same time.

Good luck!
