Load widget in page last

I am developing a site, [url]www.greenwichprivateequity.com[/url], where I have a javascript and php widget in the bottom of the middle column. The widget is awesome because it pulls in news stories from different rss feeds and displays them in a cool way.

The problem is that this widget takes too long to load and slows down the loading of the rest of the page. I would like to load this item last and display a small image with a rotating wheel that says “loading”, while that process is going on. I have seen this done before but i forget where.

Does anyone know if this is the best method to go about this? If so, does anybody have code? Maybe the best method is just to clean up the script a bit so that the page loads faster in the first place.
