IE 6 problem w/ floated list menu

I’m having a problem with my floated and nested menu in IE 6…
I have a floated ul with floated li’s and a ul nested in one of the li’s…all of this is contained inside a div with a background color…IE is ignoring the height of the div and is forcing it to extend to cover the height of the nested ul…is there a way to make IE comply with the height I’ve set without having to get rid of the structure of the nested list?
