I was just wondering. I am designing an estate agents website for a friend but I was wondering what open source system people might recommend that could do that well?
@ray326Jun 20.2007 — #You might be able to use one of the many PHP-based open source CMS systems as a foundation. It depends on your use cases, though.
@dzysyakJun 20.2007 — #I used openrealty for several sites and 2 of the sites were hacked. Not sure how they did this (had no time to investigate). So, think what kind of site you are developing and what is its importance. Be ready that it can be hacked (do regular backup).
On other had, if you are going to develop the site with some unique features, think either it will be faster to use some boxed solution or create new one.
And what is important, proprietary solutions usually have developers that can customize the solution for you. With open source solutions things are little more complicated.
I do not want to suggest you anything, as it is your site (or your friends one) and you will be responsible on what you will do ? I just share my experience.
PS: I am using open source too, but fare not always open source and free software means cheaper and easier.
@k0r54authorJun 20.2007 — #hey, sorry LeeU I posted in php but then realised it was more a general question. Also has anyone used the joomla estate agent add on? If so what is it like?
