CSS UI problems in netscape 4.8

I created
.header {width:11%; border: 0 ; margin: 0 ; padding: 0}
.navBar {background: sumcolor; height: 2.2em;}
.navMenu {float:left; vertical-align:middle} my css.
I’m not even sure if this is caused by CSS

Then in my JSP code i wrote
<table class=”head” cellspacing=”0″>
<tr class=”navBar”>
<td colspan=”2″>
<span class=”navMenu”>
…….. some links
</span>
<form>
<input name=”damnthing” type=”text” value=something” />
<form>
</td>
</tr>
</table>

but when ever i shrank the size of the window in netscape 4.8
textfield “damnthing” would overlap the links between span. this would result in the inaccessibility of the links covered by the “damnthing”. HELP!!!
