Moving Intranet to new server

Our intranet is going to be moved to a new server. I am at a loss as to everything that needs to be done to make this successful. I can move one department at a time as far as content goes, but I am more concerned with some of the more sophisticated things running. Is anyone aware of any books or articles out there that would talk about this specific topic? I have to make sure that IIS is set up correctly, scheduled tasks moved, ASP (any coding changes needed, extensions loaded, FrontPage, all extensions activated, Javascript, connections to Lotus Notes, SQL servers. Or am I psyching myself out and making it harder than it really is?

@Compguy_PeteJul 17.2003 — Well I think you need to take this one step at a time...

  • 1. I would collect everything you need to install and put it in a pile.

  • 2. go though the IIS folder on the old server and see whats in there... Basicly find all the files for the areas that have to be moved. Lotus stuff may be in a directory far away from IIS I'm not sure exactly. The locations of files is really going to depend on who installed it all...

  • 3. Are backups ever run of the server? There may be options there as well...

  • 4. another option is to call all these vendors and find out the default storage location of the data.

    Success!
