Formfield length CSS and browsers

On the following site http://www.quixys-france.fr in the topbanner there is a domaincheck with an input field. I need this field to have a fixed (or maximum) length if not, it is messing up the layout. Now there are different problems:
1. if one changes it’s lettertype to make it bigger, the formfield becomes larger
2. on a macintosh with FIrefox, the formfield is longer then on a windows machine with Firefox
Even though I set size=”20″

Is there a way to control this behavior??

@KDLASep 29.2006 — Use CSS and "em" measurement to set the width:
<i>
</i>&lt;input type="text" style="width: 10em;" /&gt;
