@Wiz_CreationsAug 16.2006 — IE doesn't have tabs. Firefox is probably only opening in a tab because you have a setting set on your browser to force links that open in new windows to open as a new tab instead. You can check by going to Tools > Options > Tabs and look where it says "Force links that open in new windows to open in:"

You are better off using IE6 at this stage as IE7 will have more quirks than the previous

@toicontienAug 16.2006 — Firefox has a setting that allows the browser to open a new tab whenever a Web page requests that a new window be opened. It's a setting that the end user controls and as far as I know, there is no function call that specifically opens a new tab in any browser. Internet Explorer 7 will (and does) have tabs, but I don't know if there is a setting to open new windows in tabs like Firefox does.

And mind you, I believe there is a similar setting in Safari and Opera. The user is in complete control of whether a new window is spawned or a new tab is created.

@toicontienAug 16.2006 — If we don't like IE7's implementation of W3C standards right now... too bad. Those are pretty much set in stone. What the beta testing is focusing on now is the user experience and working out functionality bugs, not web technology support.

IE7 Has fewer bugs and quirks than IE6. Both browsers share many of their quirks, but the big pain is that IE7 supports the child selector and doesn't support the star-html hack (* html someTag { ... }). So now we've got to specify style sheets for IE-Win using Internet Explorer conditional comments. Fun stuff. But I'd say all in all, I'd rather everyone use IE7 beta than any previous version.
