Struts vs Spring

Hi Guys!

I need to develop a web application using JSP as my front-end and sql server for my db. The app will consist of aprrox 10 screens, mainly just data-entry screens with a lot of fields on each…

I have never used Struts or Spring and need to decide on one to develop my application.

I already did a google on this and most of the people are either pro struts or pro spring because they’ve already been using one or the other.

Since I’ve never used Struts or Spring I thought Id ask people’s opinions on what would be the best option for me to go for.

@ray326Jul 21.2006 — They're really a little different beasts from each other even though some people like to play them off as filling exactly the same niche. I haven't used Spring but the reading I've done on it leads me to believe for a simple job like you describe Struts would be the easiest to use. I might apply Spring for something with a more complex model but even then Struts can be used for the view/controller. Finally, you'll find a lot more information on and probably more IDE tooling for Struts since it's the more mature of the two and Spring seems to be more xdoclet driven than Struts.

If you haven't yet, check out MyEclipseIDE for a very nice IDE supporting Struts, Spring and Hibernate along with other Java-based frameworks at a great price.
