trace layer visibility

Hi,

I’m trying to trace the visibility of a layer.
I have layer:

[code=html]<div id=”menu” name=”menu”></div>[/code]

And javascript code:

[code=html]alert (menu.visibility);[/code]

The output of this is undefined??
What can I do to trace the visibility of the layer called menu???
I also tried things like:

[code=html]alert (document.menu.visibility);[/code]
[code=html]alert (parent.document.getElementById(‘menu’).visibility);[/code]

I hope someone van help me!!
Thanks in advance!!

Greetings Zeb
