@bluedawg65authorApr 11.2006 — #So are they actually crawling the Flash content or are they indexing based on the HTML page the .swf is sitting in? In other words if we optimize Flash content for Search Engine Ranking using targeted keywords and keyphrases Search engine spiders will be able to go into the .swf and read that content? I am sorry if I am being redundant I just want to be sure I am understanding correctly.
@_lt_Eddie_gt_Apr 12.2006 — #Flash and SEO is a big problem.
First of all, yes, search engines can read text in Flash but only form field text, not text that is vector or raster. Secondly, you cannot convey structure such as headers and paragraphs which are essential for a good result as Flash does not produce HTML. Third, if marketing is the primary aim of the website, the reconsider the technologies used to convey the message and functionality. It will be worth it in the long run but if Flash is the only way then keep things in form format.
