How about the best way to accept payments

I looked into authorize.net to accept payments via credit card. Does anyone know how easy it is to incorporate the code into a website? In lamens terms, I write the script then transfers them to the payment server which actually handles the payment.

The last thing I need is myself doing it myself. Is authorize.net the best way? I guess what I’m looking for is the best and easiest way to have a customer pay for services.

Oh,one last bit…. After they complete their transaction, is there a way that a random generated email get sent to their address for them to log in to my site? Wow, never meant to overload this question, but any info/thoughts would be much appreciated…

@felgallApr 07.2006 — I use Paypal with my own Paypal IPN script that Paypal calls once the payment is processed so that I can have it can automatically send an email to the purchaser (even if it has taken a week for the payment to clear) - I an selling programs and they are sent as attachments on the email. When I checked with various banks none of them were able to offer those features and their fees were also higher than paypal.

@LeeUApr 07.2006 — You can use PayPal and this script . I have checked with many who have used it and they say it works fine.

@webbizJul 18.2006 — Since authorize.net is only the gateway for processing payment, the solution you are looking for, is to install a ready-made application, aka shopping cart. You will therefore not need any script writing but instead to use a fully tested application and process. There are quite a few free carts available.

I use OSCommerce, accepting multiple payment method including authorizeNet. I sell software, so downloads is sometimes the fastest way of distribution. Attachment by email is not recommended, as sometime attachments are detached by mail servers as an anti-virus measure. You may want to consider downloads, with email notification.

OSCommerce shopping cart is free, and has a download feature. It also provides email notification upon order completion. Downloads can also be set to expire and limit to the number of times. You can read more about this at www.oscommerce.net. Authorize.net is $8 a month at www.unitedbankservice.com so it is a relative good alternative to paypal. Your DBA name you choose will appear on your customer's bank statement instead of Paypal *
