Anthropic launched Claude Design, a new product from its Anthropic Labs group that lets anyone collaborate with Claude to produce designs, prototypes, slides, one-pagers, and other visual work. It's powered by Claude Opus 4.7—the company's most capable vision model—and is rolling out as a research preview to Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers.
The pitch is squarely aimed at the gap between “I can sketch” and “I can ship a Figma file.” Designers get room to explore many directions instead of rationing exploration to two or three. Founders, PMs, and marketers without a design background get a way to produce visual work without commissioning a designer for every artifact.
Brand-Aware From the First Project
During onboarding, Claude builds a design system for your team by reading your codebase and design files. Every project after that uses your colors, typography, and components automatically. Teams can refine the system over time and maintain more than one—useful for sub-brands or product surfaces with different visual languages.
Inputs are flexible: text prompts, uploaded images and documents (DOCX, PPTX, XLSX), or pointing Claude at your codebase. A web capture tool grabs elements directly from a live website so prototypes match the real product instead of approximating it.
Refinement: Comments, Direct Edits, Custom Sliders
Once a first version exists, you refine through conversation, inline comments on specific elements, direct text edits, or adjustment knobs—custom sliders Claude generates for spacing, color, and layout that update the design live. You can then ask Claude to apply a localized change across the full design, which is the kind of cross-file consistency work that historically eats designer hours.
Sharing, Export, and Handoff
Documents have organization-scoped sharing: keep them private, share read-only links inside your org, or grant edit access so colleagues can modify the design and chat with Claude together in a group conversation. Export targets include Canva, PDF, PPTX, and standalone HTML, plus an internal sharing URL or a folder.
For developers, the most interesting capability is the handoff bundle: when a design is ready to build, Claude packages everything needed for Claude Code to implement it with a single instruction—closing the design-to-implementation loop without a manual export-and-translate step.
Use Cases Anthropic Highlights
Brilliant says it cut prototype work for its most complex pages from 20+ prompts in other tools to 2 prompts in Claude Design, and that including design intent in Claude Code handoffs made the prototype-to-production jump seamless. Datadog reports going from rough idea to working prototype before anyone leaves the room, with output that stays on-brand. Canva is partnering with Anthropic so designs flow from Claude Design into Canva as fully editable files.
Other listed use cases: realistic interactive prototypes for user testing without code review, product wireframes that PMs can hand off to Claude Code, design explorations for breadth, pitch decks, marketing landing pages and social assets, and code-powered “frontier” prototypes with voice, video, shaders, 3D, and built-in AI.
What It Means for Web Developers
Claude Design slots into the same trend Cursor, Stitch, Spline Omma, and v0 are pushing: the UI is the prompt, and the prompt produces working artifacts—not just images. The differentiator here is the brand system + handoff bundle pair. If your team uses Claude Code, prototypes generated in Claude Design arrive ready to build, with brand tokens already applied. For Enterprise orgs, Claude Design is off by default; admins enable it in organization settings. Access is included with existing Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans and uses subscription limits.
