fixed it in firefox, now it’s broken in IE, and my text won’t display either

Two isses:
1. I was having difficulty getting my CSS-based layout to appear correctly in firefox- got that fixed, and now it isn’t right in IE. In firefox it displays perfectly but IE floats my left nav up too far and smashes it right up against the main text area.
2. My main text area text doesn’t display on first load in IE (does in firefox, and on reloads of IE). If I highlight the area where it should be in IE, it comes up. NO idea why this is happening. ?

I am relatively new to CSS and this is my first attempt at doing layout this way- hope I am not missing something too obvious, but I am at the end of my rope- much appreciation for any help with this!

Thanks!

@fcmauthorMar 08.2006 — Thanks, I think I was able to fix the peekaboo issu using that info. The second part is a duplicate of my other post, but the first question is still a separate issue. I ended up (for now) adding some line breaks (not great form, I know, but need something to work), but would love it if someone could tell me why the text area floats up over the section header above? I do really want to set it up properly...

thanks again for your help, Fang!

Be that as it may, most if not all of my clients still use IE; therefore I have to support it.

@FangMar 08.2006 — It appears to be working correctly, but the errors in #main should be corrected

@fcmauthorMar 08.2006 — thanks, I have been at it all day. I will check out the errors.

@fcmauthorMar 08.2006 — No, I was trying to quote this:

Coding once for Firefox: priceless.

IE is eight years behind the standards or wrong.

Use a proper doctype!

IE is a cancer on the web

But it works in IE!

@drhowarddrfineMar 08.2006 — We used to use the term kludge. IE is a kludge. Canard is another good word. If you code to IE you are coding to bugs. Write your code correctly and test in Firefox then chances are it will work in all browsers. Write your code in IE and test in IE then you will have problems for life.
